Discipline Through Diligent Work
This verse highlights the value of diligence and hard work, showing that disciplined people will rise to leadership positions.
Scripture - Proverbs 12:24 (CSB)
‘The diligent hand will rule, but laziness will lead to forced labor.’
Observation
God wants you to be a diligent child of God. This verse highlights a principle that will lead to success. Diligence means working hard, being consistent, paying attention to details, and following through even when it’s hard. It’s not about being busy, but about doing something faithfully and responsibly. It means you are doing something regularly, building progress every single day. Being diligent doesn’t mean you cannot rest. Yes, you need to rest. Even God created the Sabbath day for us so we can rest. But you cannot be lazy, spending hours doom-scrolling on TikTok while lying on your bed for 7 hours.
Application
Whether you’re struggling to lose weight or trying to be more diligent about money, you can try to:
Ask God to reveal any area in your life that hinders you from being more diligent.
Humble yourself before God. Being lazy means you’re being prideful about yourself.
Being grateful for everything you already have, and ask God how you can be a better steward.
Focus on the little things instead of the big things. For example, make up your bedroom every time you wake up, put things back where they should be right away, record your cash flow every day, etc.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for the many blessings You’ve given me. Forgive me for the times I've been lazy and failed to steward what You’ve entrusted to me. Help me to be more diligent, and guard my heart against procrastination — even on the days when motivation feels far away. Help me to honor You through consistent and faithful work.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
