Doesn’t God know everything?

Why do we ask, search, and knock if God knows everything?

Scripture - Matthew 7:7 (NIV)

“Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you.”

Observation

This is one topic that Jesus said in the Sermon on the Mount. Jesus taught us to have an active relationship with God. If we pay attention closely, these words are verbs. God wants us to proactively have a two-way communication with Him because He is the living God. Ask Him when you need something, whether spiritual or physical, search Him when you are happy, sad, angry, or however you feel, and knock on the Kingdom of Heaven to enter His Kingdom.

God respects boundaries. That’s why God won’t give if you don’t ask. This verse reminds me of my experience of being reborn in late 2023. For a year, I prayed every day, asking Jesus to heal me. I searched Him first before anyone else. I knocked on the Kingdom of Heaven every single day (by praying daily) until one day, Jesus opened the door, healed me, and renewed my spirit.

Application

These practices could help you build your relationship with God:

  • Set aside a specific daily time for daily prayer to connect with Him. For example, every morning at 5 a.m.

  • Seek Him first, no matter how you feel or what you’re going through.

  • Be open and honest about your current state now. God wants to listen to you, even though He already knows everything.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,

We thank You for always providing us, loving us, and for being near us. Forgive us for not being faithful to You, and reach You when we’re only in trouble, You are always faithful to us. We thank You for reminding us You are Our Father, and You want us to have a relationship with You. Father, I asked You to teach us Your wisdom and guidance. Help us remind ourselves to first seek You in any circumstances that happen in our lives. Open the door of grace and mercy for people who believe in You. We surrender everything into Your hands and trust in Your unfailing promises. In the name of Jesus, we pray.

Amen.
